The John Watts Boat Fishing Competition will be held on Saturday 29 August 2026 (as usual, the Saturday of the August Bank Holiday). After two years of holding it at Grafham, we are moving the event back to Draycote this year – more details to come in due course.
John Watts was a founder member of the FDG (Membership No. 2) and it was his idea to have a fishing event to promote friendship and camaraderie with a touch of competition. Originally a small stillwater event, this grew over the years and is now fished as a large water event from drifting boats. Past participants will attest to it being a friendly and enjoyable day, attracting members from different parts of the UK. Traditionally an inter-Branch event, it is also open to individuals and all members of the FDG are welcome to take part. The competition is contested by teams of four. Each Branch may enter up to two teams and individual entrants will be placed into pairs or teams of four if feasible. All competitors must be paid up members of the Guild.
